On the Ground:
God deeply impacted me this month through one of our former patients. She didn’t come to see us for herself, but because she trusted us, and her mom had some concerns. After clarifying that we are not doctors, we did a basic assessment and gave them helpful information—numbers and details she could take to a medical professional. We did believe she needed to be seen by a doctor, so we encouraged that next step.

As they were getting ready to leave, her mom gave a shy smile and asked something quietly in K’iche’. Her daughter smiled timidly as well and handed us her mom’s ID card. They wanted to know how old she was.
This woman has lived her entire life unable to determine her own age because she is unable to read. And though her daughter speaks Spanish, she cannot read it. They came to us because the daughter couldn’t help her mom—and because they trusted that we could.
God builds these spaces of trust through countless tiny interactions over years. Little moments we hardly remember—short conversations, small acts of kindness, being present—each one becomes a thread He weaves into something meaningful. He keeps showing me that anything we do for Him is never really about the task itself. It’s always about the heart behind it. Especially when it comes to people.
Every small conversation about “nothing” is actually forming a relationship. We build trust in ways we might never notice until, years later, the impact surfaces—and becomes the means through which God brings life, dignity, and identity to someone who needs it.

We are steping our in some big ways!
Daniel has moved from serving as a village teacher into a new role supervising and supporting teachers in several local village schools.
This position allows him to coordinate resources, provide training, and strengthen the quality of education in communities closely connected to our clinic’s patient population. It’s a new role for this region, and we’re encouraged to see long‑standing needs finally being addressed.
At the same time, my fellow missionaries are transitioning out of this area, entrusting to us the relationships and ministries they’ve faithfully cultivated. As part of that handoff, I (Katie) have stepped into managing the clinic, handling administration, organizing patient appointments each morning, and together continuing the ongoing family visit ministry some afternoons.
These visits are strengthened by Daniel’s established relationships in the villages, helping us maintain and deepen trust within the community.
This season places greater responsibility on both of us, but we feel a steady peace. We’re confident that God has prepared this path and that we’re not stepping into it alone.
I’ve been encouraged by:

Last weekend I traveled back to my hometown for Night to Shine, a global prom event for individuals with special needs. I served as a buddy for a young woman, while Daniel was paired with a young man from a local special‑needs school we hadn’t known existed. (how incredible to find other like minded compassionate caregivers!!!)
The night was full of joy—hair and makeup stations, a cheering red carpet, a beautiful dinner, and a message reminding each guest of their value in God’s eyes. The volunteers were incredible, loving each guest with such dignity and care.
One of the highlights was watching Daniel gently help his guest feel safe enough to enjoy the evening after a lifetime of being made to feel like a burden. And of course, the dancing with friends with Downs syndrome was pure joy.
I’m grateful we got to be part of a night that boldly affirms the worth God gives every person.
