Slow days

I enjoy the slow days!

Some days we have quite the line of ladies. Many of whom were waiting since 6am for us to open at 8! This is because one of our clinic days is on market day- when folks in the villages come into town.

They combine their market shopping with the fact that on this day, there are trucks that go to and from the villages! They start early int he morning and walk to the mountian road. Then they flag down the next passing truck- sometimes waiting quite a while for them to pass!!

And they have to make sure to finish at a good hour or they have to hire someone privately to take them back- much more expensive than the few Q to join a truck already passing by!

I love these busy days.

But last week we had a particularly slow day, and one of our moms came for a visit.

It was not her son’s appointment, that was this week! She had come to town for market, and to take her son to the health center for an illness. But the line was very long and any mom in a waiting room with two young kids knows just how challenging that can be!

So, she came on over to us to wait it out. We focus on maternity and nutrition, referring sick kiddos to the health center, so she really just came to let her kids play with the toys, and to chat with us.

The day was slow, so we could just sit on the floor and build block towers while the line at the health center grew shorter.

It was so relaxing to just sit on the floor, build, play, and talk.

Soon, a patient came in, and we cleaned up.

Our friends went on their way, and we went back to work. But what a lovely little break! I love that this is a safe place for our moms to come.
