On the ground:

Clinic ministry has continued throughout the month despite increasing limitations related to Katie’s pregnancy. At 37 weeks pregnant, Katie has found that her shared experiences frequently help patients feel comfortable and foster trust. As maternity leave approaches, plans are in place for basic appointments to continue under Elsa’s care. Elsa is a nurse from the local church, assists with K’iche’ translation during appointments.
A significant aspect of our clinic ministry remains the emphasis on communication in patients’ heart language. This allows families to understand their medical care, ask questions, and receive education in a way that is often unavailable within the public healthcare system.

The very late rainy season has also altered our ministry activities. Road conditions have become increasingly difficult, limiting access to remote communities. Daniel has continued making visits by motorcycle when families have urgent needs involving food, medication, or infant formula.
One notable visit involved a follow-up with the twins mentioned in our last newsletter. Daniel travelled through significant rain and arrived during a regional power outage. The visit was conducted by flashlight under a tin roof while heavy rain fell throughout the area.
During this visit, Daniel learned that the twins, Elian Josue and Alison Kareli, are growing well. Their mother has been supplementing with infant formula in addition to breastfeeding- a reality we . Daniel spent time providing instruction on safe formula preparation and reinforcing the importance of maintaining breast milk as much as possible while reassuring the family that supplementation can be entirely appropriate in special circumstances such as twins.
We have also identified another mother in the community who was separated from her newborn shortly after birth due to a medical emergency and now faces similar feeding challenges. Because of these situations, we are beginning efforts to help offset the cost of infant formula for these babies during their first year of life.

After a long journey through paperwork and administrative hurdles, Daniel officially graduated with his master’s degree this month.
Unfortunately, the celebration came with a surprise.
On the way to the graduation ceremony, our vehicle made one strange sound and then stopped completely. The transmission failed without warning.
While that’s certainly not how we hoped the day would go, we are thankful for God’s protection. The breakdown happened on a clearly visible stretch of road where help could reach us quickly, rather than on one of the isolated mountain passes we often travel. Friends soon arrived to help us get to the ceremony, and God has since provided a vehicle for us to borrow while ours is being repaired.
With a baby due any day now, we’re definitely feeling the importance of reliable transportation. Yet even in this challenge, God is reminding us to trust His provision one step at a time.

We praise God that clinic ministry continues to impact hearts and serve local families effectively.
We praise God for Elsa’s partnership and for providing qualified help as Katie prepares for maternity leave.
We praise God for safe travel during severe weather conditions, particularly during Daniel’s recent visits.
We praise God that the twins are growing well and healthy.
We praise God for the completion of Daniel’s master’s degree.
We praise God for His protection when our vehicle’s transmission failed. — On a visible and relatively safe location rather than in a remote mountain area where assistance would have been difficult to obtain.
We praise God for providing a temporary vehicle while ours undergoes repair.
We praise God for the ongoing preparation and healthy progress of Katie’s pregnancy as we await the arrival of Dannia Luz.
